SS Welding Fiber Glass Backup Tape
The tape would ideally be used for:
One-sided welding of weldable metal. To achieve a flatter, smooth, coke free weld bead to minimise the need for post-weld grinding and cleaning.
Common metals welded with 'Backing Tape' include:
carbon steels stainless steel chrome-molly and duplex steels copper nickel cast iron
The tape comprises a 75 mm wide, heat resistant aluminium sticky tape, in the center of which is a 25 mm wide band of woven glass fibre cloth.
The material is available in three grades: It is possible to weld onto the tape with MIG, Stick, TIG or plasma processes, so long as the recommended current levels are not exceeded.
The lightweight grade comes in 25 meter lengths and the heavyweight in 12.5 meter lengths.
If lengths are needed to be joined, rolls of the sticky aluminium tape without the fibre are available from Huntingdon Fusion Techniques Limited, allowing a small length to be cut off to join two lengths of the 'Backing Tape' together.
We have placed some video clips showing the following:
